The Eagle at Barrow, Near Clitheroe was the first wedding fayre of our season, we had displays of venue and bridal flowers for all to see and talk about...

The tallest of our Martini glasses, filled with orchids and roses are ideal for the Eagle to give that 'WOW' factor...

Here is the first photo of our gorgeous, traditional, rosewood coloured, solid wood shopfront... Thanks to all our customers for 'bearing with us' whilst we have been improving the shop... Now just waiting for our canopies to come back from the canopy people, to complete the ensemble!

Garlands Naked!! Scarey stuff at 9.30am in the morning, I had to look twice when driving to the shop! It certainly was a freezing three days, with coats, scarves and fire on, still managed to get chillblains!!

My Valentines window display for 2012 - how did I do it? Took one joiner, and stood him in the window, cocked his left leg backwards, and as if my magic - we have a life size 'Cupid', without the bow and arrow!! Job sorted!! LOL

The channel 4 production team, who have been busy over the last few months filming at Garlands will be there also for their before and after filming, so a mucky day all round!!

Hi all - from windy, rainy Ossie!

It's back to work for most of us this last few days. Thank you for your custom over the last few weeks, we were kept busy and looked forward to a few days off over Christmas. The shop sure looks a little bare and undressed at the moment, after we packed away all of the Christmas finery over the last couple of days and nights - ah yes - the nights, a long job as always!

We are now looking forward to our new shop front being installed at the end of the month, not looking forward to the dust etc though, but sure it will be worth it in the end!!

I will keep you posted with all the latest developments, and pictures of the before and after, it seems as if the shop front knows the end in nigh, as the windows are even rattling when some one outside closes their car door!!

Now shown finished, with added diamantes in the centre of each rose, and to the left side - that very special diamante holographic charm of Linda's late Dad, which was such a touching idea of hers to insert it into her bouquet, so that he was 'there' on her Wedding Day...

Sparth House Hotel - New restaurant official open evening

Last night was time to slap on the make-up after a long day at the shop and go up to Sparth House at the invitation of our friends - Amanda and Shaun - the owners to join in the celebrations of their official restaurant/bistro opening, alongside The Worshipful Mayor of Hyndburn, Collette MacCormack - which saw guided tours of the newly created and designed eating area. The area, believe it or not was two former storerooms, adjacent to the kitchens, which Shaun (owner) - a wonderful builder, (everybody should have a Shaun) decided to change into a new extended restaurant/bistro area, to increase seating capacity and make somewhere for diners to go and enjoy on regular lunchtimes and evenings. With the menus now starting from £9.95 for two people for lunch and £12.00 for two in the evenings, alongside the A la carte menu, I don't think they'll be short of diners, with the quality they provide!!

Suzanna's beautiful wedding flowers

It was a pleasure to design Suzanna's wedding flowers for her wedding on the 27th October 2011 at The Shireburn Hotel, Hurst Green, Nr Whalley.

She chose Ivory roses, mini white calla lilies, blue thistles, and white chinz to compliment her teal bridesmaids colour.

The teardrop bouquet also included Rosemary for added aromatic fragrance, and loops of her specially sourced teal fabric ribbon to compliment the theme perfectly...

Thursday evening was a busy one!

The Martini glasses certainly looked good in the grandeau of the Pendle Suite!

We dashed over to The Dunkenhalgh at teatime to set up our 70cm Martini Vases with red gel, and red, yellow and Blue arrangements on our 12 inch mirrors - for The Real Trust from Rochdale, who provide training for teachers and school staff - I believe they really let their hair down!

A big thank you, to Rachel Hodges from The Real Trust for choosing us to design the corporate function flowers for them!

The Bank called in at Garlands!

Rachel got a surprise when back in June, she answered a call from her business bank manager - Denise Melia from Yorkshire Bank business centre in Burnley, asking if she could make arrangements to come in and see her - eek!

Denise, based in Burnley, was calling Rachel to ask if she could spend a day working with her. As part of Yorkshire Banks' small business service, all small business managers are expected to spend at least 2 days each year working within their customers' businesses. This 'time in the line' helps the business managers gain a greater understanding of their customers and what it is like to run a small business.

Both Denise and Rachel agreed is was a very useful exercise - it gave Denise an insight into the problems that a small company like Garlands can face when it comes to cashflow, and getting clients to pay up on time - especially some of the larger corporate ones. The day went well, and Denise and Rachel had a good laugh and regular 'brews' too!

Denise Melia, small business manager, Yorkshire Bank said:

"Now what to do with my curly ribbon?"

A dozen red roses or a cheque book - decisions, decisions...

"It was great fun spending a day and actually rather harder work than I had expected. Yorkshire Bank is very much open for business and we are keen to help support good local businesses like Garlands Florist. Spending a day with Rachel means I now understand her banking needs better."
